The tales of people's lives that compose a vast majority of the Bible should not be expectations. Expectations should be set in the nature and the promises of God that are shown and told through the stories we read. However, it's easy to see we shouldn't set expectations: righteousness led to very different things for Job and Hosea than it did for David and Solomon. In the same way, someone's chaos and misfortune in their life is not necessarily a product of disobedience toward God, though it may be.
